Episode 242: Social Rules in RPGs, Gaming Perspectives with Saul and Jolene
Thursday Jun 08, 2023
Thursday Jun 08, 2023
Social rules in Rpgs is something that is usally overlooked or not included in RPGs. As the hobby gets more and more people outside the Wargame Hobby the idea of rules including social conflict rules. Looking at posts about this subject many of those posting stated that they did not like the idea of one simple roll of the dice to determine social conflict. From convincing the guard to let them in without an invitation, trying to get information from a witness not wanting to cooperate, to gaining favor from a warlord. These are all examples of Social Conflict in RPGs. Some games have social conflict rules, other include some rudimentary rules, while other rules completely leave out these kind of rules. Saul and Jolene discuss how these rules might work but then segue onto the subject of Social Rules at the RPG Table. This is most important at public or convention games where you are likely to play with complete strangers. As Always Thank You All for Listening

Episode 241: Locations in RPGs, Gaming Perspectives with Saul and Jolene
Thursday Jun 01, 2023
Thursday Jun 01, 2023
Location, location, location. Everyone knows how important locations are in real estate, but what is less known is the importance of locations in RPG adventures. No matter the genre or the game, locations are where the adventures take place. Saul and Jolene dicuss the importance of location in rpgs games and adventures and how each location does not and should not be mapped out in detail but that means some might have to be. For a GM it is important to know which ones are need details and others that do not. It saves precious time for GMs to work on other parts of the game session. As Always Thank You All for Listening. Episode 239: Leaning into Bad Rolls, Gaming Perspectives with Saul and Jolene
Tuesday May 16, 2023
Tuesday May 16, 2023
Saul and Jolene were talking about some bad dice rolls that were happening in the last session of their Shadowrun 5th Edtion game. The discussion covered how players usually do not want to roll bad and be reletively successfull in all their characters endeavors. But what when rolls go bad, really bad. The idea of Leaning into Bad Rolls came up and Saul and Jolene decided to do an episode on "Leaning into Bad Rolls". Not simple failures as in missing in combat or failing a skill roll but failing critically. What can GMs and Players do when misfortune falls upon the bold.. Thank you all for listening. The new D&D Movie: Honor Among Thieves has been out for about a month. Jolene and Saul went to go see the movie and decided to do a Spoiler Free episode. No Spoilers. If you have seen the trailers then you should feel safe listening to this episode. So what are Saul going to be talking about? Three things. How is the setting of the movie, Forgotten Realms presented to the viewers of the movie. Did they spend a lot of time describing, presenting or discussing the world of the Forgotten Realms? The 2nd topic was how well were the classes presented by the characters in the movie. The the actors, the script and their actions illustrate the classic D&D classes of the RPG? From the main characters to the secondary characters could D&D player identify the classes that those actors were trying to portray? If they did how well did they do it? Did the movie do a good job of portraying an actual D&D adventure/campaign? If it did how did it do it? Saul and Jolene then finish up the episode of their overall opinion on the movie. Episode 237: Gnomes, Gaming Perspectives with Saul and Jolene
Friday Apr 28, 2023
Friday Apr 28, 2023
Jolene has always liked Gnomes( She pronounces gnome with a hard G) and when we were thinking of a new episode we thought about the last couple of episodes dealing with Elves and Dwarves. We agreed that Gnomes was a good topic to continue our discussion of playing other character races other than humans. Gnomes for Saul had been one of those groups that he had never played. Saul usually played humans and possibly played one elf back in AD&D days so he could play a multi-class character. Though recently Saul has favored playing two Gnomes in the last two fantasy genre RPGs he has played, Pathfinder 1st Edition and Low Fantasy Gaming. Saul really enjoyed playing the happy go lucky, hard to damper character with a large blunderbuss, which in one game he called the Brindlebox Express. So Saul and Jolene agree that Gnomes are really fun and cool to play where there is a lot of room for roleplaying. Thanks for Listening. Web Art by JIm Foster Episode Art by Michael Shean-Jones.
